Amber Sports Dummy Review

The Amber grappling dummy is a low cost dummy. However, the unusual arm design doesn't allow for many arm locks, and the dummy won't situp inside your guard. Read review...

Amber Sports Dummy Review

sports-dummy-reviewThe Amber dummy is a submission style dummy, and is very similar in design to the Combat Sports dummy. The positive points about this dummy are:

1 – it is about half the price of the other top of the line grappling dummies, and
2 – it is pretty decent for leg locks.

The downsides of this dummy are that

1 – the arms are permanently positioned “overhead” (Americana position). Unfortunately, that makes it difficult to do many arm locks EXCEPT for an Americana (including a basic armbar from the mount). The arms can’t be straightened for arm bars without putting an awkward bend in them.

2 – that arm overhead position makes it nearly impossible to put a BJJ gi on it… bad for you gi-style grapplers.

3 – The weight distribution is such that it doesn’t sit up inside your guard, so you won’t be getting much guard training with this one.

OUR FINAL CONCLUSION

You only pay half the price of other grappling dummies, but you only get half the functionality and durability. Not sure why the manufacturer chose this design, but it needs work.
