grappling dummy review

Grappling Dummy Review2The Combat sports dummy is a submission-style dummy.  Inexpensive, but low price comes with a cost.  Many armlocks cannot be performed on this product, it won’t situp inside guard, and cannot wear a gi.

Very similar in design to the Amber dummy, the positive points about this dummy are that it costs about half as much as the top-of-the-line grappling dummies, and it does work pretty well for leg locks.

However, 2 substantial problems exist with this product:

1 – It does NOT sit up well inside your guard due to it’s weight distribution. That’s a pretty big issue for BJJ / MMA style grapplers, who spend a significant part of their time in guard position.

2 – The arms are stitched to be permanently “overhead”. Unfortunately, that makes it difficult to do any arm locks EXCEPT for an Americana (keylock), including a basic armbar from the mount or kimura. The arms can’t be straightened for arm bars without putting an awkward bend in them.

3 – That “overhead” arm position prevents the Combat Sports Grappling Dummy from easily wearing a gi. If you’re into gi-style grappling, that’s not going to work for you.

The lower-cost of this product ultimately equates to lower usability due to the inability to effectively train guard and the overhead arm design.

OUR FINAL CONCLUSION

A low cost product, but you won't be able to train many of the essential upper body submissions and positions you would want to as a BJJ or mma submission grappler. It seems the upper body design was not created with a submission grappler in mind.
